Staying connected to people and places in my heart is the most important thing to me. Three months ago I left my Bali home to return to my Melbourne home for work. Leaving my friends, my fur babies and my home behind gets harder each time, even though it’s never more than a few months between visits.
Aletheia & Phos was born when I began hand making crystal Connector Bracelets in 2013. Having something that kept me connected to my boyfriend or my dad or best friend, that little daily reminder of the precious people in my life, the energy and warm fuzzy feels it brings, nothing compares to it.
I arrived back to Bali on Friday to spend the weekend with a pretty special group of ladies.
These women move me.
They inspire me.
They’ve got passion and drive and a wicked sense of humour. We laugh till we’re that group at the restaurant on the floor crying. They’re strong and determined and they remind me that we’re all in it together. We support each other, love each other, and send 47864375 messages (ingredients: 30% memes) in group chats on the daily.
The energy on the island of the gods is like nothing else in the world. Bali is in my heart. It gets me right in my feelings. It’s a place you either love or hate, and it has the power to eat you up and spit you out if you’re not ready for what it has to offer. It can also set you on an amazing journey you never thought possible.
This year I've spent a lot of time reading, writing and thinking. I’ve travelled (with people and solo) and slept on airport floors more times than I can count (more time to read and think), and I’ve talked my face off about feelings, emotions and people allowing themselves to be vulnerable.
What I’ve realised is that we’re hardwired for connection – emotionally, physically and spiritually. The two most powerful forms of connection are love and belonging. A book I’m currently reading defines connection as “the energy that is created between people when they feel seen, heard and valued; when they can give and receive without judgement.”
This little trip is about reconnecting with my ladies. A time to get hugs in before the end of the year, catch up, hold hands, eat and drink wine, eat more and laugh till our faces hurt. When we’re together, we learn and we grow.
I asked Jillian, Jade, Heidi and Faith which pieces they loved and why. So here we go, four women I love (so much I want to squish them till they squeak), with their own distinctive style, and what I’ll secretly be gifting them for Christmas to keep us connected when we’re apart.
360 Hoops – “They’re delicate and beautiful, I love the shape, they just make my eyes happy.”
Estelle Necklace – “The setting and shape make it look like the stone is floating. A cool everyday piece I can see myself layering with my other necklaces.”
The Graduating Ring “This is a beautiful setting. Settings are what get me, it totally reels me in.”
Jillian: Little By Little Ring, Cor Luna Ring in Opal, Remember Me Ring. “I love stacking, layering and mixing my rings. I wear so many different pieces from family and friends, each one has a special story.”
Heidi: The Orbit Ring, Asteria Ring, Dreamer Mini Hoops. “I love how delicate and dainty the pieces are, even with the big stone in the Orbit Ring, the tiny little jewels around it keep it super feminine. I’m really obsessed with opals too, the Mini Dreamer Hoops are gorgeous.”
Jade: I Carry Your Heart Necklace, Baby Girl Necklace, The Moonstone Connector. “The meaning behind these is really beautiful. Every piece of jewellery I wear is really special to me.”
